Charlie, a three-year-old tabby, went missing in 2016 after the Robertson family moved to a new area. Sisters Lucy and Hannah searched for months. Over ten years later, in July 2026, a vet in Abercarn called: a cat brought in by a resident was traced via microchip to the sisters. The 13-year-old tabby recognized them instantly and went home to Newport.

Artemis, an indoor-outdoor cat, vanished from her Hickory home in 2021. The Garci family posted fliers everywhere but got nothing. Five years later, a woman brought a cat found in her basement to the Harford County Humane Society. On New Year's Eve 2020, Bella, a small chihuahua, vanished from a Houston suburb. Five years later, in December 2025, she was brought to Winnebago County Animal Services in Illinois as a stray — over 1,000 miles from home. Her microchip revealed she was from Houston. Care for Pets raised funds and found a volunteer to fly her back. "She was really attached to my oldest son, and when she saw him, she was reaching out her paw," her owner said.

Choco disappeared from his Antelope, California home in 2021. Five years later he turned up tied to a fence near Detroit — more than 2,000 miles away. The Lincoln Park Animal Shelter scanned his chip, and the California group Helping Paws and Claws traced his owner. A stranger donated her SkyMiles so a volunteer could fly Choco home for the holidays. "Microchip your dogs, people," his owner Patricia said.

Penny, a chihuahua mix, escaped under the fence of her Mississippi home five years ago. In late October 2025 a DeLand, Florida resident spotted her in a driveway and brought her to Volusia County Animal Services. A microchip scan led to owner Kristy Taylor — over 400 miles away. Taylor flew to Florida to retrieve her long-lost companion. "If Penny had not had [a chip], we would have not gotten her back," an official said.

A tabby cat named George arrived at the Scottish SPCA's Glasgow rescue centre in September 2025. A standard microchip check showed the 14-year-old cat had been registered missing back in 2016. Because the details were up to date, the charity contacted George's owners, who came to collect him the next day. The family had believed he had passed away; George returned home to a new feline sibling and a human "brother."

Binks, a 14-year-old cat, went missing from his family five years ago. In May 2025 a kind woman named Shainy found him on Chicago's North Side and brought him to a vet to be scanned. He drove through a dust storm from Indianapolis to reunite with the cat he thought was gone forever.

A New Jersey family adopted two kittens a decade earlier; soon after, one slipped out a window and disappeared. They searched everywhere — fliers, shelters, neighbors — but their kitten never resurfaced. In November 2024 a Good Samaritan brought a stray cat to the Montclair Township Animal Shelter. Staff scanned for a microchip and "BINGO. MICROCHIP AND REGISTERED!" The family still had the same phone number, and on Friday, November 14, Asa came home.

Jennifer Ravenel rescued feral kitten Sam on her South Carolina farm, then lost him when a dog spooked him 11 years earlier. She couldn't hold another cat in her lap during the long absence. In August 2024, Charleston County Animal Control found Sam less than a mile from her home, skinny and living off a feral colony. His microchip brought Ravenel the phone call of a lifetime: "Sam Sam the Kittycat Man! I've missed you so much! 11 years!"

Gizmo, a chihuahua mix, slipped out the back gate in February 2015. For nearly a decade his owner Judith searched and never stopped hoping. In July 2024 she received the email she had dreamed of: someone had found Gizmo and his microchip had been scanned at an animal hospital. He was in rough shape — skin and dental infections — but unmistakably her dog. A key step: she had re-registered the chip in 2020, so the alert reached her.

Izzy vanished from her Middlesbrough home one day in 2021. After three years, her owner Rachel had nearly given up. Then, in May 2024, new UK cat-microchipping legislation meant a cat brought to the PDSA Pet Hospital was scanned before a chip was implanted — and Izzy was already chipped and reported missing. She had been living with another family who thought she was a stray. Thanks to the chip, Rachel got her back the next day.

In April 2024 a brown teddy dog wandered into the Meilong police station in Shanghai and nuzzled an auxiliary officer. Police took him to a clinic, scanned his neck, and found a microchip. The chip's ID — "Tangtuan" — matched the city's dog registry, leading straight to his owner, Mr. Zhang, who said the dog had been missing for two years. The next day Tangtuan recognized his owner instantly. Shanghai police note that a chip plus registration lets a lost dog be found "with one click."

Cindy and Jeff Hall rescued Russian Blue Luke from a Tucson shelter, then moved to Nevada. Five years after he slipped out, they got a call out of the blue: Luke — now called Sam — had been found at a gas station in Brinkley, Arkansas, over 2,000 km away. Volunteers with Alone 2 Home transported him home on a 19-hour journey. "This story just can't underestimate the power of a microchip," Cindy said.

Long-haired Strawberry went missing in June 2014. Around two years before her reunion, a stranger in Plymouth began feeding her. In December 2023 they contacted Cats Protection, and a volunteer traced the chip through social media to her owners, Lee and Jo. Strawberry, then 11, was "covered in fleas" but microchipped — and recognized her family instantly. "It really was a Christmas miracle," Jo said.

Janet Dunbar adopted Clarke and his sister Scarlett in 2012; six weeks later Clarke ran away. She searched for years and eventually moved away, but "Clarke was always in our thoughts." Eleven years on, a vet in the Wirral called: they believed they had her cat, found just ten minutes from where he vanished. Janet drove straight there. "A microchip is the size of a grain of rice… it permanently identifies pets," Petlog noted — and Clarke was home.
